How Water makes Permaculture Better

Kai: Water is an important feature in permaculture. Whether you are adding a pond, bird bath, rain barrel or other source to your yard, no matter how big or small, it enhances all aspects of the garden. Water attracts beneficial birds, insects, and reptiles, which eat many of the pests that would normally consume your garden.

Crazy Water Melon Abundance!

The last past two years we’ve been rather successful with growing water melon. We have yet to perfect our propagation, but our plants have at least produced well in number. The varieties we’ve tried are the Black Diamond, Red Crimson, and Lelanau, a type of water melon that is actually orange colored on the inside.

We’ve just learned about this new online platform called the “Freesteading Community” It’s a social network focused on homesteading, self-sufficiency and off grid living. This Animal is a Headache!

Kai: On our homesteading journey, we’ve acquired many animals. I love our chickens, pigeons, rabbits, and fish. Everything has its chore load, but they all get taken care of, and have their own values and place in the permaculture ecosystem. Aside that, many are beloved pets. However, there will always be that one thing that makes you crazy.
